Sailor's delight, 02-15-2007. The south arm of the Great Salt Lake is a popular spot for sailing on sunnier days. Antelope Island is about six miles from the marina.
Waiting, 02-15-2007. Sailboats at their moorings, waiting for a sunny day.

Opaque world, 02-15-2007. Gray, murky day over northern Utah.

Hide and seek, 02-11-2007. The sunset is partially obscured behind a dark layer of clouds on the horizon.
Darkness falls, 012-11-2007. Evening skies cast a dark shadow across the marina.

Safe haven, 02-11-2007. Antelope Island's marina offers safe haven from winter storms for a handful of boats. Seich waves, driven by the strong winds, can be damaging because of the dense salt water of the Great Salt Lake.

Mirror image, 02-11-2007. Frary Peak reflecting in the still waters of Buffalo Bay.

Thawing out, 02-11-2007. After weeks of freezing temperatures, the mercury is rising and nature is beginning to thaw. This ice had blown off the lake and accumulated along the edge of the causeway.

Ice dike, 02-11-2007. A week ago, this was a long crack in the ice separating Buffalo Bay from Farmington Bay. As warmer temperatures have thawed the lake, this line of ice remains from the causeway to the south end of Buffalo Bay.

Breaking through, 02-11-2007. After a long weekend of overcast skies, it's great to see the sun shining on the horizon!

Sunset from the sandy shore of Bridger Bay, Great Salt Lake, 02-04-2007

Bridger Bay on ice, 02-04-2007. Imagine this same beach in three months from now. On Memorial Day weekend, it will be full of visitors.

Buffalo Bay, Antelope Island, 02-04-2007. This part of Farmington Bay in mid-winter is a virtual ice sheet.

Causeway in winter, 02-04-2007.
A thin layer of ice over Farmington Bay but open water in Gilbert Bay on the other side of the causeway.

Blue skies over Great Salt Lake less than three hours after complete overcast conditions, 02-04-2007.

Bridger Bay, 02-04-2007. Overcast skies with a hint of clearing, 1-2 pm.

Coyote on the prowl, 02-04-2007. Miles from its usual island habitat.

A small duck in a big pond, 02-04-2007. Early Sunday morning lots of bufflehead ducks on the lake.

Frozen night, 02-01-2007. The wind was blowing and the temperature had dropped quite a bit. It was COLD!

Coyote moon, 01-31-2007. One or two miles from here, I spied three coyotes out on the ice near the causeway.

01-31-07, last sunset in January, taken from the causeway about one mile from Antelope Island. Lakeside Mountains are about thirty miles in the distance.
Altostratus undulatus, forming very long west-east bands across the sky. I took this shot from an overlook above old Bluff Road, in West Point, Utah, on 01-28-07

Taken from the causeway to Antelope Island on 01-23-07. The sun's rays trace a transitory line between Ladyfinger Point on the left and Egg Island on the right.
Actually I took this photo from the entrance to Antelope Island State Park, about seven miles distant, accessible by a causeway crossing the Great Salt Lake. You can see the outline of Buffalo Point to the north, followed by Beacon and Dooly Knobs to the south. The highest point is Frary Peak at 6,596 ft. above sea level. The average lake level is 4,200 feet.
High above the Salt Lake Valley, it's a different world. This shot shows the inversion layer, colder air trapped in the valley, until a storm blows it out or a cold weather front releases the trapped air below it. I took this picture at the top of Hidden Peak (11,000 ft. above sea level) at the Snowbird Ski Resort. I e-mailed it to ksl news and it was featured on a weather segment in January.

This is my favorite sunset capture of January 2007. I took this picture on January 12 at Bridger Bay. I like how the clouds diffused the light and the Great Salt Lake carried the sun's reflection from the Lakeside Mountains to the Antelope Island shore.
I took this one from Bridger Bay, Antelope Island, on January 7, 2007. I adjusted the colors and brightness using ACDSee 8 software.

One of my favorite pastimes is to go out to the Great Salt Lake and capture a sunset. I took this one on January 5, 2007.
